Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th 1964) was an American politician, attorney and vice president of United States. She is the first female vice president and is the highest ranking female politician in U.S history. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and also as an United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later appointed by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected the district attorney of San Francisco. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. Between 2017 and 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. She was a senator who worked for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling cannabis. The path towards citizenship for migrants who aren't legal. She was praised nationally for her pointed examination of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
